Tell all the Truth but tell it slant-
Success in
Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation
kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind-
"Tell All The Truth But Tell it Slant," is poem written
by Emily Dickinson that we all thought was difficult to understand. We each read the poem and wrote down our thoughts and
here is what we think...
Lisa: I thhk this poem is talking about how you should
tell the truth, but not all at once. I think the line, "The truths superb surprise, " is talking about how the truth
is better if you find it on your on and see it for yourself. I think the line, "The Truth Must Dazzle Gradually," is talking
about how you don't always find everything out at once, sometimes the little detials are learned along the way.
Stephanie: I think this poem is about truth and how it
can be hurtful in many cases, and should be told only to a certain extent. Sometimes people handle the truth differently,
therefore it should be told differently. This poems poetic explanation of saying how bold the truth is is great. The
truth is too much for Emily dickinson and it is proven in this poem. Also this poem expresses emilys personal views on life
and writing.
Chris: i believe emily puts alot of emphasis on honesty in this
poem. she tells how the truth is so important and the detailed expression goes well describing what or how
you should tell the truth. i like the rhyming in this poem and how compressed and dense this poem is. emily does such a good
job by just talking about one word, truth.
